Courtney Shanade Salter, also called Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed as the label's debut female singer with Dreamville Records by J. Cole. In the month of October Ari Lennox debuted her debut EP Pho. This was the moment that she gained recognition. Shea Butter Baby her debut studio release was May 7th 2019. Ari Lennox released her songs online in 2012 when she released Five Finger Discount mixtape and Ariography EP in 2013. In 2014, Ari Lennox continued posting her songs online, including her independent single Bound. In 2015, she appeared on Omen's Elephant Eyes Album, which came out on the 21st July. it out on July 21st. In the following year, her music was circulating all over the Dreamville team as J. Cole wanted her to collaborate with him on some potential references to Rihanna. The announcement of her decision to be signed by Dreamville Records was made on the 8th of December. Backseat is a song that was written by her and Cozz to record the collaboration album Revenge of the Dreamers II. In October 21st, 2016 her debut EP was released, titled Pho. Ari Lennox was a guest on J. Cole's Change and also performed on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour as the opening act. In 2018, she was able to appear on two tracks with her label-mates EarthGang on Nothing but the Best and Bas on Icarus. The debut album of Ari Lennox Shea Butter Baby was released on 16 July 2018. The debut single, called Whipped Cream, from the album came out in September 5th, 2018, accompanied by a the music video. In November, she released two singles, 40 Shades of Choke & Grampa. Then on the 13th of November two singles, titled The No One and Pedigree. She appeared with Cole in The Creed II Soundtrack on Shea Butter Baby, on November 16and later she released the song in a solo version to the album she released her debut. The music video premiered on February 20, 2019 to accompany the track. Within one time, it was viewed more than 3 million views. As a supporting act she performed in concert with 6LACK in December of 2018 for their From East Atlanta With Love Tour.
